Junior IT Support & Field Technician
Build real-world IT experience while helping local businesses with the technology, records, and day-to-day support they rely on.
The opportunity
Start with the work that makes good IT support possible.
This role is an opportunity to build practical, professional experience supporting local businesses. You do not need previous professional IT employment. You do need basic hands-on knowledge, a helpful attitude, sound judgment, and a willingness to learn and document your work carefully.
This is not an all-day computer-building or cybersecurity job. A significant part of the role involves answering calls, writing support tickets, documenting customer interactions, maintaining equipment records, labeling and inventory work, organizing office items, and following procedures.
What you’ll do
Help in the office and at customer locations.
- Answer support calls, write useful tickets, and document customer interactions clearly.
- Maintain equipment records and help with labeling, inventory, and office organization.
- Install computers and replace networking equipment at customer businesses.
- Assist customers professionally and explain what you are doing in plain language.
- Label devices and cabling, perform authorized equipment or network inventories, and document equipment locations and configurations.
- Research unfamiliar problems using search engines, vendor documentation, and technical communities while protecting customer information.
- Follow established confidentiality, security, documentation, and work procedures.
What you already know
A practical foundation is enough to begin.
- Computer and networking basics: You can set up a modem or router and explain LAN versus WAN, DNS, DHCP, static IP addresses, and a common 255.255.255.0 or /24 subnet. Advanced networking expertise is not expected.
- Basic Windows troubleshooting: You can find Event Viewer logs or blue-screen/crash information and capture relevant details in a support ticket. Advanced log interpretation is not required.
- Resourceful research: You are comfortable finding reputable technical information without exposing confidential customer details.
- Clear communication: You can be friendly and professional on the phone, in person, and in written notes.
- Reliable follow-through: You pay attention to details, show up dependably, want to learn, and are comfortable with routine administrative work.
Six months of customer service experience is preferred. Retail, cashier, hospitality, and telephone experience all count.
What we provide
The equipment you need to do the job.
- Uniforms and required tools at no employee cost.
- A company iPhone with service and hotspot capability.
- A laptop or tablet as needed for the work.
- Approved business travel in a personal vehicle reimbursed at $1.00 per mile.
You do not need to supply a personal computer or phone. Company devices are managed and monitored under company policies; permitted personal use does not make them private devices. Travel between work locations during the workday is paid separately from mileage reimbursement.
Schedule & requirements
What the role requires
- Schedule: Monday–Friday, approximately 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. A 30-minute unpaid lunch is required; one hour is preferred. Short paid breaks are provided. This generally means 35–37.5 paid hours per week, not 40.
- Employment: Hourly, non-exempt. Remote work is not available for this position.
- Driving: A valid driver’s license in good standing, an acceptable driving record, and a reliable, safe, maintained, reasonably clean and professional-looking personal vehicle with valid registration and automobile insurance.
- Current proof of insurance is required before driving for company business and must remain current. We do not ask you to upload it with this initial application.
- A neat, client-appropriate appearance and compliance with confidentiality, security, and fit-for-duty policies.
- Background checks, driving-record checks, and drug screening may be required as permitted by applicable law and relevant customer requirements. Work may involve sensitive customer or government systems.
- Ability to safely handle normal computer equipment and perform essential duties, with reasonable accommodation where applicable.
